Deer Hunting Pictures

9 pt. buck 225 lbs. dressed, 2001 season

Ed Heung, a first time visitor to BBay,  took the biggest buck prize in  2001 season.

This deer has been the dominant male in the area for the past few years.  He eluded us a number of times that week, outsmarting each of our tactics to get him.  We finally opened up a new area where he was known to frequent.  After 2 days of avoiding the area, he came back and we were ready.

This was a 9 pt. buck, weighing in at 225 lbs. dressed.

There is now an opening as a Sr. deer herd manager, fringe benefits, opportunities to learn & grow in the job.  Applications being accepted.

Caught by the camera and his curiosity.  While the picture was taken outside of hunting season, he is an excellent candidate for next year's hunt.

Spotted on the edge of the woods feeding on the soft grasses & clover.

They blend in to the colour of the cover, even when they are in the clear open areas.

deer hiding in woods
A scrape from a busy buck.  Found on the East cut line, close to Stand # 3.  Male deer do this scraping with their antlers to prepare themselves for the rut and to signal their territory

Gary's Deer
A nice young buck that produced 110 lbs. of venison for the freezer.
Glenn's deer
Removing the hide before taking to the butcher.  Many hunters donate their hides to the aboriginal people of Canada for use in their traditional crafts and clothes.

To keep our deer happy, healthy, and wanting to stay in the area, we feed a nutricious meal of corn, oats, and apples for dessert.   Yummy !

Deer feeder holds 250 lbs. (145 kg.) of deer feed, enough to get our resident deer population through 1 to 2 months (if they snack & don't pig out).  A few bushels of apples from our orchard supplements in the fall.

View of the deer feeding station from the nearest tree stand.  High enough to have an excellent view and keep the scent high on the wind.

Cutting, splitting, & drying during the summer produces plenty of good firewood for keeping the lodge warm during the cool weather during hunting season.
